How To Make A Hand-Tied Bouquet

This bouquet is made while holding flowers in your hand. If you do not feel confident handling the flowers in your hand, try the try the Nosegay method.

Start by stripping leaves from the lower half of all stems. To keep the Bouquet tight, take off more leaves remove as many leaves as possible

Pick up one flower and one foliage stem, or 2 flowers

Begin by placing one stem directly on top of the other at about a 45-degree angle.

Hold the flowers midway up the stems between your thumb and fingers – this is called the "cinch-point"

Continue adding stems of flowers and foliage an angle, building your bouquet in a clockwise fashion. Keep your hand relaxed

When you feel your bouquet is done, use your free hand to wrap a twist-tie around the "cinch-point" or tie it with ribbon or twine. You can also tie the stems at the bottom to secure the arrangement further.

Last, trim stems evenly at the bottom.

Depending on how early you prepare your bouquets, you may need to put them back in water. If you do, you may want to consider holding off wrapping the stems in ribbon. Alternately, you can also wrap the ribbon so the last couple inches of the stems are still exposed.

Use a ribbon that is 1 – 2” wide. If you are going to wrap the stems from top to bottom, cut a piece about 3 times the length of the stems, cut shorter if you are going to leave a portion of the stems exposed

Begin at the top, tuck a piece of the ribbon inside the stem to secure it

Wrap the ribbon down at a 45 degree angle

When you are satisfied with how far down you have gone, begin the reverse process of wrapping back up.

When you are back at the top you can secure the ribbon by tucking it under the stems or you can use corsage pins to secure it.
